American Express only  protects their clients without regard and without considering any defence on the merchant's side; read this:
We are an italian chandelier company selling on line almost exclusively to US, and we have never had any complaints in our commercial life.
Well,one day we accepted to make a chandelier not included in our range, but photographed by the client in a shop.
We were not given any specifications about size, proportion, etc.
We made it to the best of our ability in good faith, we sent it, and after 22 days from receiving the merchandise(this is against the european low n.185 22/05/99 stated on our site under "terms" where the client has 10 days time to refuse the merchandise), the client communicated to us the intention of sending it back because she was not satisfied.
We tried to persuade the client that everything was ok,
however she asked the charg back to American Express, they than contacted us and we gave them all the documentation which they completely ignored(also because the chandelier has not came into our possession again).
Our saga finished when American Express communicated that the amount would be taken from our bank account unfortunately after the amount was taken out.
After this do you think we will accept American Express in the future, we let you be the judge!
