Stick to your guns. The same thing happend to us and the battle went on for a yr after they opened a fraud case.  
We traveled to South America and 3 mo. after our return we got several charges amounting to almost $4000 from an establishment with a Spanish name. We never heard of the business and Amex could not even tell us what the merchant sold!!!  

We finally sent copies of our passports and airline stubs showing we left there long before these charges were processed.  

Luckily, our business associates in that country were eventually able to find out what kind of merchant  put through the charges.
It was call girl service and house of ill repute which was illegal there. You would think Amex would stay away from that.

Now we all know that Amex will take money from most any source.

Anyone know the difference between these services and Amex, they actually deliver value.
