A class action Complaint has been filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, civil action number 02 cv 6439, on behalf of all persons or entities who purchased securities of American Express Company (``American Express'' or the ``Company'') (NYSE:AXP - news) between July 18, 1999 through July 17, 2001, both dates inclusive (the ``Class Period''). American Express Company, Kenneth I. Chenault, Richard Karl Goeltz, Daniel T. Henry, Harvey Golub, David R. Hubers, Gary L. Crittenden, and James M. Cracchiolo are named as defendants in the complaint.

I like the company - have owned it from $42, saw low $30's a couple times, and am making money with call options on it. It has been strong during real weak markets and is one of the first to recover.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I say!  Grin

I am amazed that no one here gets the fact that the only people who truly "win" in these cases are the attorneys.

In the good ole U S of A, anyone can file a lawsuit against anyone for darn near anything. It doesn't mean that the plaintiff has a legitimate complaint nor does it mean that the defendent who settles is a crook.

Get a clue, people.....

Generally those who settle do so because the facts of the case means that they are likely to lose and face even larger damages.

Once again a stooge has the facts wrong, I decided to rid myself of Amex.  It is one of the best decisions I ever made because.........
